A new war is brewing – semiconductor

Today, semiconductors are in demand in all technological industries, they have become the blood of the global economy, and first of all, in microelectronics and defense industry. The shortage of semiconductors caused the rise in prices for some gadgets. Major autocontracens were affected especially, since the lack of a key component leads to production stops.

Against this background, the authorities of a number of states around the world entered into a new struggle. This is a new arms race, which is still played by the United States and China.

haqqin.az has already noted that the world has an acute shortage of microchips caused by both a violation of supply chains after a pandemic and a fire at a large factory in Japan. Many enterprises are forced to reduce power, and in some cases even stop production.

But the holy place is not empty, this niche is of interest among many potential investors. Thus, the leader of the democratic majority in the US Senate Chuck Shumer presented legislative amendments to the allocation of $ 52 billion for a significant increase in the production of semiconductors in the country to reduce dependence on external supplies. This, he said, will allow the United States to remain the leader in the production of chips, which is key to the country’s economy.

One of the first to engage in this struggle declared the familiar to us Intel, whose turnover in 2020 exceeded 77 billion dollars. According to her general director Pet Gelsinger, the lack of semiconductors can last until 2023. And representatives of the Corporation are no longer intensive discussions in the US administration. In particular, Gelcinger is trying to one of the first to access government grants to $ 3 billion for the construction of chip enterprises.

decided not to lag behind the European Union. It promises to allocate more than $ 150 billion to develop the next generation of digital industries in the current decade, seeking to catch up with competitors in the United States and East Asia in such areas as microcircuit production and artificial intelligence. The Digital Compass strategy, which is part of the EU economy recovery package after a coronavirus pandemic of 2 trillion dollars, is aimed at strengthening the technological independence of the block by 2030. The goal is to produce at least 20% of the global semiconductor semiconductors in Europe in 2030 compared to 10% of the global semiconductor market in 2020.

True, the plan has not yet received the final approval, but the largest European producers of semiconductors, it seems already looking for ways to these funds. And this is the Netherlands ASML Holding NV, which produces devices for creating a microcircuit, German Infineon Technologies AG and the Netherlands NXP Semiconductors NV, which produce chips for the automotive and industrial sectors.
