A Syrian ship with stolen Ukrainian grain was detained in Lebanon

The Livan prosecutor’s office detained the Syrian ship, which, according to information from Kyiv, transported wheat stolen from Ukraine, reports BBC with reference to the Lebanese media.

According to the report, the prosecutor’s office arrested the ship in the port of Tripoli and transferred an investigation on it to the special services. According to the Lebanese media, the Ukrainian Embassy in Lebanon received legal permission to detain the ship in the port of Beirut from July 28, for 72 hours.

In turn, the Russian Embassy in Lebanon informed the local media that did not have information about the ship, calling Ukrainian accusations “false and unreasonable.”

On the eve of the Ukrainian embassy in Lebanon, it was reported that the court in Ukraine issued an arrest warrant of the Laodikey vessel detained in the port of Beirut under the Syrian flag and a cargo located on board. “The ship arrived from the Crimean port closed for international cargo transportation, with 5,000 tons of barley and 5,000 tons of wheat, taken, as we suspect, from Ukrainian reserves,” reported Reuters with reference to a source at the embassy.

According to the representative of the diplomatic mission, in the event of confiscation of the cargo, Ukraine will be ready to negotiate regarding the conditions for its transfer to Lebanon.

The Ukrainian side accuses Russia of systematic export of grain from captured Ukrainian territories and attempts to sell it in third countries. Russia denies these accusations.
