After 79-year break, first Friday prayer took place in Karia mosque

The first Friday prayer was made in the Karia mosque in Fatikha, which was again open for worship after 79 years.

The townspeople showed interest in Friday prayer committed in the Karia mosque, which was restored as a mosque by Decree of the President of the Republic of August 1, 2020 and was opened for worship on May 6 after the completion of restoration after 4 years.

Mehmet Chelik, who came to the mosque from Esenyurt to make Friday prayer, said that he had come to make his first Friday prayer in the mosque: “There was no way to pray inside, I made a rite. Glory to the Almighty for this day.”

The building, which for many years after the construction was used as a church, was turned into a mosque by the great vizier Khadim Ali-Pashoy (Atik Ali-Pashoy) during the reign of II Bayazid. Kariya, turned into a museum in 1945 and annexed to the management of museums in 1948, again became a mosque on the basis of the presidential decree of August 1, 2020.
