After months of silence, Merkel expressed solidarity with Ukraine

The former German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke about the war in Ukraine after several months of silence, calling it “barbaric”, reports Reuters with reference to sources.

According to the agency, the ex-head of the German Cabinet of Ministers announced its solidarity with Kyiv against the backdrop of Russian aggression against Ukraine. “My solidarity with Ukraine,” Merkel noted, also adding that she supports the actions of the German government in the help of Ukraine and his attempts to resolve the situation.

Ex-Chancellor made the relevant statement at a farewell ceremony with the chairman of the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DBG). As Reuters notes, Merkel spoke of her attitude to the situation against the backdrop of criticism of its policy against Russia by the United States and a number of other states, including the support of the North Stream-2 project.

At the same time, the agency also emphasizes that the ex-Chancellor of Germany refused to give any advice to the current government under the Ukrainian crisis and generally intervene in the situation.
