European aircraft manufacturer Airbus announced the need for an urgent software update on a significant part of the A320 family aircraft. This is stated in the company’s statement.
According to the message, an analysis of a recent incident with A320 family aircraft showed that intense solar radiation can damage data critical to the operation of flight control systems.
The company noted that a significant number of operating A320 family aircraft have already been identified that may be are at risk.
Airbus has issued an Emergency Readiness Notice (AOT) for all A320 family aircraft to ensure the safety of the entire fleet, it said.
The message states that the issued AOT will also be reflected in the EASA Emergency Airworthiness Directive.
“Airbus recognizes that these proposals may result in operational disruptions for passengers and customers. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and We will work closely with operators as safety remains our top priority,” the publication says.
It is noted that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), for its part, said it has issued an emergency airworthiness directive for the Airbus A320 family to address a vulnerability caused by a software update in one of the aircraft’s on-board computers.
According to the agency, the directive was published following an incident that occurred on October 30, 2025 year on JetBlue flight 1230, and is aimed at eliminating the identified risk. “These measures may cause short-term disruptions to schedules and inconvenience for passengers. However, as always in aviation, safety comes first,” the message says.
The introduced precautionary measure is expected to affect about six thousand aircraft of the A320 family.
