In the course of an interview for Azerbaijani TV channels, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev commented on the probability of the mediation participation of the European Union in the question of the post-war convergence of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“We do not exclude such an opportunity,” answered, in particular, Ilham Aliyev. – Being in Brussels, I told it and the leadership of the European Union. The most important thing is that the agenda of the bilateral convergence has been drawn up correctly, and Armenia, which is often one partners. I believe that the European Union can play an effective role in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. “
According to President Aliyev, the positive perception of the idea of the mediation of the European Union in the negotiation process is explained by the fact that the key issue of the two-way settlement is the observance of the principles of justice that the European Union, unlike some countries, never broke.
“As I said,” Ilham Aliyev continued, “during the Karabakh war, France, despite the status of an intermediary, who obliging it to remain neutral, unequivocally stood on the side of Armenia.
It must be said that the European Union did not participate in the events, so clearly and demonstratively violate the political and diplomatic balance. At the last meeting in Brussels, we witnessed a clear observance of objectivity and parity from the European Union, which makes it possible to talk about the positive role that his leadership can play in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the economic and financial support for unlocking in the region Transport arteries and, in particular, for the implementation of the project of the Zangezo transport corridor.
I also want to emphasize that the community of European states with huge political experience and powerful intellectual resources can provide participants with recommendations on a variety of issues of resolving bilateral relations, including the definition of borders.
