Ambassador Of Greece To Tripoli Called To Foreign Ministry Of Libya

The Libyan Government of National Unity caused Greece Ambassador to Tripoli Nikolai Garelinis to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with one -sided steps taken by the Greek authorities in the disputed sea areas.

A written statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Libya says that the Government of National Unity (PNES) has taken appropriate diplomatic steps to protect its legal rights in the controversial marine areas.

Greece tender for hydrocarbons reconnaissance in the disputed sea areas south of the island of Crete is a violation of the rights of Libya sovereignty, the statement said:

“Ambassador of Greece to Tripoli Nicholas Garelinis was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with unilateral steps taken by the Greek authorities in the disputed sea areas. He was informed that the Government of National Unity condemns the steps that clearly violate international marine law and the rights of Libya to sovereignty”

Libya expresses deep concern of Greece by the actions of Greece

In a statement published on June 19, the Libyan Government of National Unity expressed deep concern in connection with a message published on June 12 in the official journal of the European Union, regarding Greece, the tender for exploration and development of hydrocarbons in the Libya areas south of Crete.

“The Ministry confirms that these steps are a clear violation of the rights of Libya’s sovereignty, and expresses a complete reservation and open objection to any intelligence or drilling in these areas without a preliminary legal framework that respects international law,” the statement said, emphasizing the importance of compliance with international law.

The statement also contains a request to Greece “to accept constructive dialogue and negotiations on the basis of international law to achieve fair and equal decisions, taking into account the interests of all parties.”
