Ambassador Of Latvia To Turkey: Relations Between Our Countries At “excellent” Level “

The relationship between Latvia and Turkey, which will turn 100 this year, are at an “excellent” level, the Ambassador of Latvia to Ankara Bakhtyers Hassans told Anadol.

“Turkey and Latvia – NATO allies, and we are proud of our ties, which have been going on for 100 years,” the head of the diplomatic mission noted, emphasizing that Turkey is one of the few countries that did not recognize the occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union.

“We are very grateful to Turkey for this. This confirms our many years of tradition – both in relations and in culture. We are old friends,” the ambassador said.

Speaking about the prospects of bilateral cooperation, Hassans noted that both countries have many proposals for each other. “We offer access to the North European market to Turkish business and economics,” the ambassador said.

He also emphasized that Latvia is one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. The Hasans Ambassador spoke about the cultural features of Latvia, noting that the country is rich in cultural traditions and is known for its architecture.

In Riga, you can find both modern buildings in the style of modern and works of architecture in the Gothic style. “Riga is a city where you can see a variety of architectural styles,” he said, adding that Latvia is an excellent tourist destination with the possibility of traveling several cities in one day.

Separately, the ambassador mentioned the importance of the culinary traditions of Latvia, noting that 12 different dishes are usually served at the Christmas meal. “We are also proud of the nature of Latvia – 64% of our territory is covered with forests, and the collection of mushrooms is one of my favorite classes,” Hassans shared.

In addition, the ambassador spoke about the “Latvian Festival of Song and Dance”, which takes place every five years and is one of the largest amateur cultural events in the world. In 2003, the festival was included in the list of masterpieces of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind UNESCO.

Latvia will accept Eurobasket 2025

Hassans also noted that Latvia will accept the European Basketball Championship 2025, which will be held from August 27 to September 14 in Riga. “One of our common features is a love for a good game of basketball,” the ambassador said, adding that the first match of the tournament will be the meeting of Turkey and Latvia.

“I invite all Turkish citizens to come to Latvia and support my team, because all matches will be very tense and exciting,” Hassans emphasized. He also noted that in the framework of Eurobasket 2025, many cultural events will be held in Riga. “We promise that it will be fun in Riga,” the ambassador concluded.
