An Earthquake Of Magnitude 5.5 Occurred In Southern Ecuador

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 occurred in the province of El Oro in southern Ecuador.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was 11.5 km southeast of the municipality of Arenillas.

The earthquake was recorded at 19:05 local time on depth of 73.6 km.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage yet.

The earthquake was also felt in the province of Guayas and in the province of Loja, located near the border with Peru.

The Institute of Geophysics of Ecuador, in turn, estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.1.
