Italy completed an operation on the conclusion of its contingent from Afghanistan. This was announced on Wednesday Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Gueryni, writes Interfax.
“Last night, the Mission of Italy in Afghanistan was officially completed,” Roman media quotes his statement.
The last group of several dozen Italian soldiers left the Afghan province Herat and arrived at Pisa Airport.
Italy was one of the most active participants in NATO Mission in Afghanistan. According to the Ministry of Defense, for about 20 years of military presence in the Afghan territory, Italy lost 53 people killed, 723 were injured. In total, the service in Afghanistan passed 50 thousand Italian military.
