Ankara criticized report of European Parliament in Turkey

Foreign Ministry of Turkey criticized the report of the European Parliament in Turkey for 2022.

The department noted that this document is “full of unfair accusations and prejudices based on the misinformation of the anti -Turkish circles.”

The statement emphasizes that the report of the EP is a reflection of the “primitive, superficial and short -sighted approach of the European parliament, both in its relations with Turkey and in relation to the future of the European Union.”

“Unfortunately, the report also demonstrates to what extent the members of the European Parliament are captured by populist policy and how far they are from developing the right strategic approach to both the EU and our region,” the Turkish diplomatic mission said. P>

“We consider it unreasonable that the moment that is critical to ensure stability and security of the continent, when a window of possibilities for reviving relations between Turkey and the EU has opened, from the European Parliament, instead of negotiations on the entry [Turkey in the EU], a different agenda is nominated,”- noted at the Foreign Ministry.

The department emphasized that the statements contained in the report regarding the problems of the Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus “reflect unilateral views of certain groups, are not associated with historical and legal realities and have no power for Turkey”.

It is noted that Turkey has the potential to make the European Union global power in the face of all existing challenges, primarily in the field of security, energy, climate and economy changes. “To recognize these realities, it is necessary to show a visionary approach without going on the narrow interests of certain circles,” the Foreign Ministry said in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

The department expressed the hope that the new composition of the EP, which will be formed after the elections to the European Parliament in 2024, will act “based on a neutral, rational and constructive position.”
