A successful year for Azerbaijani judo continues.
The next competition, at which our craftsmen tatami again loudly announced themselves, became the youth European Championship in Prague. In the team standings of individual competitions, Azerbaijan took 1st place among the guys and 2nd place in the common table. Well, on the final day of the championship, mixed team competitions were held, where our team became a bronze medalist, for the first time in history, rising to the podium at the youth continental championships.
But first about an individual tournament. Here we have 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Vusal Galandarzade (73 kg), Eljan Gadzhiev (81 kg) and Vugar Talybov (90 kg) climbed to the highest step of the podium. Silver at Turan Bayramov (60 kg), Ismail Zamanov (90 kg) won bronze. As a result, among 39 countries, Azerbaijan took 1st place in the men’s standings and 2nd place in the overall standings, losing only to Turkey.
As for the mixed command tournament, here our judokas confidently defeated Austria (4: 0), but then lost to Georgia (1: 4), while receiving a chance to compete for bronze. In the comforting grid, the Azerbaijani team prevailed over Estonia (4: 0) and Germany (4: 1), writing down the historical first medal on youth euro.

I must say that Azerbaijan is very successfully performing this year in team competitions. Our judokas took medals in all team tournaments in which they participated. At the highest step of the podium, our judokas rose at the European youthful Olympic festival and in the men’s Islamiad tournament. We took silver at the youth world championship, and bronze at the youth and youth championships of Europe, as well as in women’s competitions of Islamiad.
By the end of the year, Azerbaijani judokas are waiting for several more important competitions, among which, undoubtedly, an adult world championship should be highlighted, which will be held in Tashkent very soon – from October 6 to 12.
