Archbishop Mikael Was Detained In Armenia

The Investigative Committee of Armenia decided to detain the head of the Shirak diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Archbishop Michael Adzhapakhyan. This was reported by the Armenian media with reference to the lawyer Ara Zogreyan.

The lawyer noted that Adzhapakhyan was charged under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (public calls for the seizure of power, violation of territorial integrity or forcibly overthrow of the constitutional system, committed using public demonstrated works or media, or information or communication technologies).

“We will report on the court and the time of consideration of the case,” Zogreyan said.

The archbishop did not recognize the charges against him.

In the morning, on June 27, employees of the Armenian National Security Service arrived at the Catholicos residence in Echmiadzin to detain the archbishop, but they met the rebuff from believers and priests.
