Archbishop Of Armenian Church Was Sentenced To 2 Years In Prison

The court of general jurisdiction of the city of Yerevan sentenced the head of the Shirak diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan to 2 years in prison. This was reported by Armenpress with reference to Judge Armin Melixetian.

The State Prosecutor Arman Baghdasaryan petitioned for the election of the Archbishop Adjapakhyan in the form of deprivation of liberty for 2 years and 2 years and 6 months. He was charged with part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (public calls for the seizure of power, violation of territorial integrity, rejection of sovereignty or forcibly overthrowing the constitutional system). Mikael Ajapakhyan has been in custody from June 28 and rejects the charges against him.
