Armenia: criminal case is opened against ex-minister of defense

Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapapayan presented to the chairman of the parliament Alena Simonyan three petitions to give consent to institute criminal prosecution against the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Seyran Oganyan, the Armenian media reports.

According to the actual data obtained during three criminal proceedings, the former head of the Armenian Ministry of Defense, using his official position, made particularly large waste, used his official position against the interests of the service, which entailed grave consequences, stole property on especially large sizes.

Note that according to Article 96 of the RA Constitution, criminal prosecution against the deputy can be instituted only with the consent of the National Assembly.

Oganyan held the post of head of the Ministry of Defense in 2008-2016.
