Armenian opposition will continue protest action

The largest opposition association of Armenia – “Movement for the salvation of the Motherland”, which for several weeks has been conducting mass rallies and processions with the demanding of the resignation of Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan and conducting extraordinary parliamentary elections in the country, confirmed on Friday that it will not refuse These shares, although the on the eve of the authorities announced their readiness to conduct early elections. According to TASS, the movement coordinator and a representative of the party “Dashnaktsutun”, Ishkhan Sagatenn explained that, one of the main conditions of the opposition is not fulfilled – the actual departure of Pashinian from his post during the preparation and holding of extraordinary parliamentary elections.

The fact is that if the elections are held on June 20, as the Prime Minister announced this, then for this, according to the current legislation, it is necessary to perform several conditions. So, the first step should be the official resignation of the head of the Cabinet no later than the second half of April. After that, the parliament formally has two weeks to choose a new premiere. Therefore, it is important here that all party presented in the parliament agreed with each other do not nominate new candidates. Such an agreement, as obvious, was achieved. Therefore, after two weeks, if the interparty agreements will be able to observe, the parliament will be considered dissolved automatically. As a result, the President of Armenia will receive the right to assign the date of extraordinary elections, which is already indicated.

But at the same time, Pashinyan himself and his cabinet members, according to all the same legislation, will actually remain in power, albeit with the prefix “Acting Responsibilities”.
