Armenians were held in slavery in Georgia for five years

Three Armenian citizens have been released after five years of slavery in Georgia, Sputnik Georgia reports, citing the Georgian Interior Ministry.

In the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, a father and son were detained on charges of human trafficking (trafficking). Based on the case materials, the defendants promised to provide good working conditions and pay to three Armenian citizens in 2015-2016, helped them collect the necessary documents and brought them to Georgia.

After the arrival of the citizens of Armenia in Georgia, they were taken to a livestock farm in one of the villages. They were housed in a barn, confiscated all their documents and, threatening with reprisals, forced to work for free. The men constantly monitored them with CCTV cameras around the perimeter of the farm and did not allow them to leave.

Nevertheless, one of the men managed to escape. He was detained by border guards while trying to cross the state border with Armenia. After that, a criminal case was opened on the grounds of trafficking in two or more people, committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy. Father and son “slave owners” were detained. They face imprisonment from 12 to 15 years.
