Five UN employees died as a result of an attack on the humanitarian office in the Kuma area, near El Fashir in the north of Darfur. This was announced by the official representative of the Secretary General Stefan Duzharrick at a daily briefing.
According to him, the dead were citizens of Sudan. A few more people were injured. The convoy consisted of 15 trucks and delivered humanitarian aid from Port Sudan to El Fashir covered by conflict and hunger.
Duzharrik noted that as a result of a blow, allegedly with the use of a drone, several vehicles caught fire and destroyed.
“We most decisively condemn this terrible attack on humanitarian workers who, risking their lives, tried to get to children and families who were on the verge of survival,” he stressed.
Who exactly is behind the attack has not yet been established. The UN calls for an immediate investigation, bringing the perpetrators to justice and the cessation of violence against humanitarian missions – both in Sudan and in all needy regions of the world.
