Assistant to President of Azerbaijan again about mandate of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh

“certain discussions are still continuing about additional legal mechanisms associated with the mandate of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh.”

This in an interview with the BBC was stated by the Assistant of the President of Azerbaijan, head of the Department of Foreign Policy of the Presidential Administration Hickmet Hajiyev.

He noted that the activities and operations of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh are carried out in accordance with a trilateral statement of November 10, signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia.

According to Hajiyev, the three-sided agreement of November 10 determined “political and to some extent of the legal framework” for peacekeeping forces:

“Regarding additional agreements and additional legal mechanisms on the mandate of peacekeepers, there were primary contacts between the parties on this issue, and certain debates are still continuing.”

“All Karabakh is the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, the international community recognizes the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and in accordance with the statement of November 10, peacekeeping forces are temporarily posted in a certain part of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan,” said the presidential assistant.

According to him, currently work on reconstruction began on all liberated territories.

“The main question that we need now is the implementation of construction, reconstruction work in these territories. Over the past 30-40 years, on a global scale, it is unprecedented projects carried out by the state,” said Hajiyev.
