Astana does not consider sending peacekeepers to border of Russian Federation and Ukraine – deputy minister

Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Sultan Kamaletdinov, commented on the possibility of sending Kazakhstani peacekeepers to the Russian-Ukrainian border.

“Such risks are not present. Firstly, it is a voluntary participation of the state. Secondly, any direction of the military contingent outside the state is approved by parliament,” said Kamaletdinov, whose words quoted “Kazinform.”

“If the parliament approves, then naturally. We cannot be responsible for the parliament, we are responsible for the Ministry of Defense,” added the deputy minister.

Last year, Aibek Smadiarov, official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on a similar issue.

“The CSTO area of responsibility is clearly outlined by the international recognized territories of the member states of the organization, and collective security is ensured within these territories. The issue of the CSTO participation in the zone of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is not worth it,” said Smadiyarov then.
