Astana: negotiations on settlement in Syria started

In the capital of Kazakhstan on Tuesday, June 20, the twentieth round of negotiations on the Syrian settlement was launched as part of the so -called “Astana format”.

Discussions in one of the hotels of Astana started at 07.00 in Turkish time from bilateral meetings of technical groups of guarantor countries (Turkey, Iran, Russia).

The Turkish delegation, headed by the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry of the Foreign Ministry of Akchapar, held the first meeting with Iri representatives.

The Russian delegation at negotiations in Syria is headed by the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry, Mikhail Bogdanov, Iranian – adviser to the Foreign Ministry on political issues of Ali Askar Haji.

In addition, Damascus at the discussions is represented by the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry Ayman Susan, the Syrian opposition – Ahmet Tuma, the UN – the special substrate of the Secretary General of Syria Gayr Pedersen. Representatives of Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon were invited as observers to Kazakhstan.

During two -day discussions, an exchange of views on the situation in Syria and the region and the last processes in this country will be held.

In addition, the agenda of the discussions includes the topics of the fight against terrorism, the exchange of prisoners, the search for missing, steps to increase trust, the formation of conditions for the return of Syrian refugees.

During the discussions, it is also planned to conduct consultations on the normalization of the relations of Ankara and Damascus, and the formation of a roadmap in this direction.
