At the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Johannesburg, Turkey’s strong commitment to regional peace and global economic stability was emphasized. This was stated by the head of the Communications Department under the Administration of the President of Turkey, Burhanettin Duran, commenting on the results of the forum on his account on the social network of the Turkish platform Nsosyal.
He noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan effectively expressed Ankara’s point of view during events, bilateral meetings and a press conference held within the framework of the summit.
Duran drew attention to the growing diplomatic influence of the country. He noted that President Erdogan during the summit focused on the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the need for efforts by the world community to overcome it.
He also noted Turkey’s constructive approach to the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine and Ankara’s call for the formation of a more inclusive global economy.
Duran also recalled that Turkey will host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP-31) in November 2026.
The Head of the Department emphasized that Türkiye is among the leading players in the fight against climate change. In this regard, he cited the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2053, as well as initiatives launched by the country like the Zero Waste Project, which illustrate Turkey’s commitment to sustainable development.
“President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2053 demonstrates to the global community that Turkey is committed to an approach to development that takes into account not only the present, but also the future. It is a vision that gives Prioritizing green transformation in all areas, including politics, energy, transport, urban planning and manufacturing, provides the country with a strong basis for leadership in the COP31 process, he explained.
“The Zero Waste Initiative, which has transformed into a global environmental movement under the auspices of Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdogan, is also one of the most inspiring success stories towards creating a more livable world. Reducing waste, efficient use of resources and promoting a culture of respect for nature are just some of the goals that are fully consistent with the spirit of COP31,” concluded Burhanettin Duran.
