At UN Conference, Country Was Called For Global Agreement Against Plastic Pollution

, within the framework of the third UN Conference, a number of countries made a call to conclude an obligatory international agreement to combat plastic pollution.

The conference takes place in Nice, in France, on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, with the participation of the heads of state and high -ranking representatives of more than 120 countries.

The co-chairs of the event are Costa Rica and France. Thousands of representatives of civil society and scientific circles also participate in the conference. One of the priority issues was pollution by plastic, which, as emphasized, poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems.

According to the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a number of participating states called for the conclusion of a mandatory global agreement to combat plastic waste. The document emphasizes that plastic pollution causes serious damage to human health and the environment.

It is noted that about 460 million tons of plastic are produced annually in the world, and if no measures are taken, then by 2060 this number will triple.

A joint statement of the fight against oceans pollution with plastic waste was signed by 95 countries.

The conference will last until June 13, during it, measures are discussed to stable protection of oceans, which are threatened by factors such as climate change, increasing sea level, excessive fishing and illegal fishing.

The first UN conference in the Ocean took place in New York in 2017 under the chairmanship of Sweden and Fiji, the second in Lisbon in 2022 with the participation of Portugal and Kenya.
