Australia will prohibit construction of new embassy of Russian Federation near parliament building

Australia’s parliament approved a law prohibiting the Russian Federation to open a new embassy near the building of the legislative body in Kanberra.

Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was supported both in the House of Representatives and in the Senate. The law that allows you to cancel the lease of the site for the new embassy of Russia near the building of the Australian Parliament was adopted within three hours.

In turn, Albeneza said that he received relevant recommendations from law enforcement agencies. “The government has received clear recommendations on the risk related to the new Russian presence so close to the parliament building. We quickly act to prevent the leased territory into an official diplomatic asset,” the Australian prime minister said.

According to him, the lawmakers opposed the initiative were informed regarding the law and convinced of the need for approval.

In 2011, Russia agreed to complete the construction for three years on a lease, but built only a small part of the planned complex.

The Russian side said that at the moment it spent $ 5.5 million on the construction of the building.
