Austria is one of first in Europe refused Russian oil

Austria stopped importing and recycle oil from Russia in March, TASS reported in the Austrian oil and gas company OMV.

Representatives of the Company said that OMV oil refining plants in the Austrian Sweddle and German Burghausen, the proportion of Russian crude oil was always quite small. “During the March, we replaced these volumes with other crude oil from the market. Currently we do not process Russian oil,” said the representative of the Austrian company.

As reported by the Austrian Print Agency, the most important supplier of oil for Austria for many years is Kazakhstan. He is followed by Libya and Iraq. These three countries accounted for 80% of oil imports to Austria. According to the Austrian Statistical Office, in 2021, the share of imports from Russia accounted for only 7.8% of 596 thousand tons of oil supplied to the Austria. At the same time, Austria’s dependence from Russian gas remains high and amounts to 80% of import of this type of fuel.
