Authorities and opposition of Georgia accuse each other because of Iranian aircraft

Minister of Economics and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili denied reports that military equipment was transferred through the air space of the country from Iran to Russia. The fact that the Iran Air airline was carried out under the sanctions of the United States, said the leader of the party “Time has come!” Elena Hoshtaria, reports SOVA News.

The Ministry of Economy of Georgia noted that the airline Iran Air Cargo really completed the flight along the route Yerevan – Moscow and spent 10 minutes in the airspace of Georgia. But Iran Air Cargo is not under sanctions and regularly operates flights to Tbilisi and other European cities.

In the opposition of Georgia, however, they regarded the statement of the Minister of Economics as misinformation. One of the leaders of the “Unified National Movement” Hatya Dekanoidze said that the airline that transports a military cargo from Iran, in any case, falls on international sanctions. “This company, which, according to widespread information, took advantage of the heaven of Georgia, is under the sanctions of the United States. This means that the authorities are trying to turn the state into a territory that is around sanctions,” said Dekanoidze.

A statement regarding the flight of the Iranian airline was made in the Office of Gruzaeronavigation. They reported that Iran Air, along with passenger air transportation, operates cargo flights to 71 destination around the world, including European countries. The airline is not included in the list of authorized EU.

As for the specific flight, according to the flight plan obtained by “Gruzaeronavigation” from the Euro -Control, the departure point is the Zvartnots Airport (Yerevan, Armenia), which is the Civil Airport. “According to the Chicago Convention, the flight of a civilian aircraft registered in a certain state is carried out in the airspace of Georgia on the basis of a flight plan and does not require the permission of the aviation authorities,” added in the service.
