Azerbaijan attracts more cargoes through “Medic fornoon”

In Tbilisi, a tripartite meeting was held for the transport of ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia.

As part of the meeting, issues of the wider use of the potential of the “Middle Corridor”, an increase in the bandwidth of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which are an integral part of this transport artery, and the formation of a single tariff policy regarding transit cargo transportation were discussed. During the discussion, the importance of synchronization of joint operations to ensure a stable growth of transit cargo flows was especially emphasized.

The parties exchanged opinions about the growing interest in the “Middle Corridor”: according to the results of the first half of this year, cargo flows increased by 15% compared to the same period last year.

During the discussion, it was noted that the need for the North-West corridor increased almost three times compared to the corresponding period last year. Namely – in the first 6 months of this year, the volume of transit goods on this corridor amounted to 1 million 300 thousand tons.

The meeting participants emphasized the activation of the efforts of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia to increase the bandwidth of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which is vital in the Middle Corridor. The confidence was expressed that joint efforts and effective cooperation would overcome the difficulties arising in the transport sector.

Also, during a visit to Georgia, Minister Rashad Nabiev held a bilateral meeting with the deputy prime minister, Minister of Economics and Sustainable Development – Levan Davitashvili.

, in the framework of this meeting, the parties discussed the launch of a container block-track between the ports of Poti and Batumi and the port in ALAAT, coordination of graphs and unification of tariffs.
