Azerbaijan deepens military cooperation with another NATO country

After a successful military campaign in Karabakh last fall, Azerbaijan deepens the connection in the defense sphere with another NATO country. As it became known to HAQQın.az, a package of documents on military cooperation with Latvia is being prepared. The document at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers will be presented by the Minister of Defense of Latvia Artis Pabriks. Latvian media writes about it.

Pack of documents is open to the public, as he has not been assigned confidential status. The preamble of the document mentions the North Atlantic Treaty and the Partnership program in the name of the world, which is a member of Azerbaijan. It is argued that Azerbaijan and Latvia sign an agreement on the basis of mutual respect for state sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as other international norms and principles.

“Cooperation meets the national interests of the signatories of its states and is not directed against the third parties,” the report says.

According to the package of documents, 15 directions of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania in the defense sphere are defined. In addition, the defense policies and strategies are also included such items as the preparation of divers, cooperation in the field of military industrial complex, military geodesy and topography, military medicine and logistics.

Agreement also provides for joint arms control and joint participation in peacekeeping operations. The plan for cooperation will be developed annually, the parties will agree on mutual visits. It is expected that the document will be paraffin by the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov.

“Obviously, Latvia agreed with NATO on the development of this agreement, which means that the Alliance wants to support Baku. Because Yerevan, the second side of the conflict in the region, is in the field of Moscow’s influence,” reports BB.lv portal.

It should be noted that after the 44-day war, Azerbaijan deepened allied relations in the military sphere with Turkey, one of the leading NATO countries.
