Azerbaijani President and head of UN General Assembly discussed mine problem

The achievement of consensus in the East European group for COP29 in Azerbaijan is itself an integral part of a peaceful agenda. Thus, Azerbaijan supported Armenia’s candidacy for membership in the East European Group Bureau, and Armenia – Azerbaijan’s candidacy for SOR29, military personnel were exempted on a mutual basis, which is a moment serving a peaceful agenda.

This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at a meeting with the chairman from the 78th session of the UN General Assembly Dannis Francis.

Aliyev said that Azerbaijan laid an end to the Armenian occupation, using the right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and as a result of this today the region is closer to the world than ever.

The meeting took place of an exchange of views on the issues of mines, global climate change, reduction of water resources and other current issues of the agenda of the UN General Assembly.

The President emphasized that Azerbaijan water resources are formed outside the country’s borders, therefore the environmental purity of cross -border rivers and cooperation between the countries of the region in this context are important.

According to the head of state, during the period of the occupation of Armenia, it established more than a million mines in Azerbaijan, that this prevents the restoration and construction work carried out on our territories liberated from occupation, continues to pose a threat to people’s lives.

The head of state emphasized that Azerbaijan carries out constant activities to eliminate the mine problem due to national opportunities. Aliyev noted the importance of supporting the international community in this matter. The President said that after the liberation of the territories from the occupation as a result of mine incidents, more than 350 citizens were injured and injured.

During the conversation, the successful chairmanship of Azerbaijan was noted in the movement of non -compliance, the initiatives of our country were emphasized, related to the definition of humanitarian clearance as a new goal of sustainable development within the framework of the movement, as well as the mobilization of international efforts in this area.

The meeting expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN and its various structures.

Dennis Francis emphasized the importance of the Global Baku Forum, organized by the International Center for the Nizami Ganzhevi, and the discussions held here. He praised Azerbaijan to multilateral diplomacy and intercultural dialogue.

He emphasized the importance of the Troika mechanism created within this framework, which includes Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.
