Bad news from UN: due to a decline in tourism, global economy will lose $ 2.4 trillion

This year stagnation will last in the tourism industry. The sector is fully restored not earlier than 2023. This forecast is contained in the report of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the UN World Travel Organization (UNWTO), Interfax-Ukraine reports on Wednesday, June 30.

It is indicated that in 2020, in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the number of international trips decreased by 73% compared with the level that existed before the pandemic in 2019, as a result of which, estimated, the loss in tourism and related industries has already reached $ 2 , 4 trillion.

“Prospects for this year is not much better,” said the representative of the Unctad Trade Analysis Department Ralph Peters.

The document notes that the key to restoring confidence in international tourism is Vaccination from COVID-19.

Restoration of tourist flows is critical for small island states, which are largely relying on this sector to provide jobs.
