Baku offered Yerevan meeting to discuss peace process

The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan suggested that Armenia have a meeting on the state border of the two countries to discuss the peace process. This is stated in the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the fact that Armenia took about two and a half months to answer the proposals of Azerbaijan under the draft peace treaty, seriously slowed down the process.

“A similar stagnation in peace negotiations does not contribute to stability and prosperity in the region,” the diplomatic mission said.

The statement emphasizes that both countries are responsible for the continuation of the peace process, including the choice of mutually acceptable place or making a decision on holding a meeting on the state border.

“We urge the Armenian side to prevent new unnecessary delays and we hope that they will positively respond to this call in order to start negotiations in the near future,” the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said that Yerevan answered the next proposals of Baku under a peace agreement.

The department noted that after the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikola Pashinyan on November 18, the Armenian side introduced the sixth package of proposals under a peace treaty to achieve a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

“Armenia is committed to the obligation to finalize and sign a document on the normalization of relations on the basis of previously declared principles,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
