The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayractar said that on May 29 a floating production platform designed to double the volume of natural gas production in the Black Sea will pass through the Istanbul Strait and arrive in the port of the film.
“On the anniversary of Istanbul, on May 29, it will pass through the Strait and arrive at the Port of Film. A year later we will send it to the Black Sea field, where it will work for 20 years,” the minister said, on a visit to Karabyuk.
Bayractar emphasized the importance of energy as a matter of national security: “Not a single area of life is impossible without energy. Recent disconnections of electricity in Europe paralyzed the lives of tens of millions of people, and this once again showed how important it is to have their own resources.”
He noted that the energy dependence on import is one of the key factors standing behind the deficit of the current account: “We still consume more than we produce. Oil, gas, coal – we import, and this enhances economic pressure.”
According to him, from the first day of the power of justice and development (PSR), it consistently implements a course on energy independence. “Today, Türkiye has one of the most modern sea fleets in the world – Fatih, Yavuz, Kanuni and Abdülhamid Han drilling vessels, as well as the seismic exploration vessels of Oruç Reis and Barbaros Hayreddin Paşa,” he said.
Bayractar recalled that last week President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a new discovery at the Sakarya deposit, and the country continues to actively increase the volume of production.
The minister also said that in regions cleared of terrorism, drilling work began. “Today we produce 81 thousand barrels of oil per day for more than 100 wells. We continue to work in Syrnak and Gabar. We conduct new intelligence in Diyarbaker, Siirta, Van, Hakkari and Trakia. We reduce dependence on imports with each step,” the minister said.
He added that Türkiye realized a 70-year dream of a peaceful atom. “With the launch of four power units until 2028, Akkui nuclear power plant will provide 10% of the country’s needs in electricity. This will supply stable, environmentally friendly and affordable energy to houses, enterprises and industry,” the minister added.
Bayractar also recalled that over the past three years only, the state allocated about trillion lire to support the payment of electrical and gas supply to the population.
Touching upon the development of the port of the film, the minister noted: “We want to make the film to the most important logistics center of the Black Sea. The South pier will be given to the management of the Turkish oil company (TPAO) and the consortium with the participation of firms from Karabyuk. This will give a serious impulse to export, employment and development of the region.”
