Biden administration is trying to reach out to North Korea. Pyongyang not responding

Since mid-February, the United States has been trying to contact North Korea through various diplomatic channels, but so far have not received a response from Pyongyang, CNN reports, citing senior administration official Joe Biden.

According to an official who wished to remain anonymous, in order to avoid aggravating disagreements, the administration has been trying to establish contact with the DPRK since mid-February, including through the UN mission in Pyongyang.

“To date, we have not received a response from Pyongyang,” the source said, adding that the US has not entered into active dialogue with North Korea for over a year, despite Washington’s numerous attempts to contact Pyongyang.

A spokesman for the Biden administration said that it appears that there has been no active dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang for over a year, including at the end of Trump’s presidency, “despite numerous attempts by the United States to join it during this time. ” A US official declined to speculate about how Pyongyang’s silence would affect the review of the Biden administration’s policy towards North Korea.
