US President Joe Biden announced new sanctions against Russia due to the recognition of the separatist “DPR” and “LPR”. The United States will impose sanctions against Russian elites, VEB and Russian sovereign debt, reports “Kommersant”.
Biden said that Washington works with Berlin over the Northern Stream-2 project was not launched. At the same time, the US President acknowledged that the sanctions against Russia will hit the United States, but promised to take measures to protect the American economy.
“Russia will pay an even higher price if it continues its aggression, including additional sanctions,” said Biden.
He also stated that the recognition of the “DPR” and “LPR” President Vladimir Putin creates a justification for the capture of a larger territory. “If you listened to his speech yesterday, he creates a justification for going much further. This is the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” Joe Biden said. “We are united in our support of Ukraine. We are one in confronting the aggression of Russia,” he said.
“We will introduce sanctions against the Russian elites and family members,” the US President said. “We introduce blocking sanctions against two major Russian banks – VEB and their military bank,” said Biden, without specifying what financial institution is in the second case.
The restrictive measures come into force on Tuesday, the Wednesday will begin to act against the “Russian elites”.
