Blinken conducted telephone conversations with Aliyev and Pashinyan

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken conducted telephone conversations with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

According to the press secretary of the State Department of the United States, Matthew Miller, during the conversation, Blinken emphasized the significance of peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and promised the necessary support from the United States.

According to Miller, the US Secretary of State said that he believes in the possibility of achieving peace, and has touched on the construction of the border checkpoint on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

“He also expressed deep concern of the United States by the fact that the creation of a checkpoint on the Lachinsky road weakens attempts to establish trust in the framework of the process of peaceful settlement, and emphasized the importance of as soon as possible the opening of the Lachinsky road for commercial and private transport,” the press noted -Secretary of the State Department of the United States, commenting on Blinken’s telephone conversation with the President of Azerbaijan.

According to the press service of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev noted that Baku supports a peaceful agenda and it was Azerbaijan that initiated the beginning of negotiations on a peaceful agreement and normalize relations with Armenia.

In this context, Azerbaijan was proposed by Armenia 5 principles in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, the president said.

In connection with the construction of the Lachin border and receipt on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, President Ilham Aliyev said that the installation of this item was ensured as part of the sovereign rights of Azerbaijan and in accordance with all international rules.

The President of Azerbaijan emphasized that the goal is not a limitation of movement, but, on the contrary, ensuring control, and passage is already carried out through this point.

During the telephone conversation, it was noted that the rights of the Armenian population living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan will be provided under the Constitution of Azerbaijan and international documents, the supporter of which is our country.

Miller also spoke about Blinken’s telephone conversation with Armenia Prime Minister Pashinyan.

Blinken confirmed that direct dialogue and diplomacy is the only way to achieve a durable world in the South Caucasus, follows from the message.

“He also expressed appreciation for the commitment of the Prime Minister of the peace process,” Miller said.
