The Main Directorate for the Forbidden Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) and the Mosque of the Prophet (Masjid An-Nabavi) in Saudi Arabia reported that the replacement of the Caaba covered was held on June 25 in the evening of 154 specialists.
The replacement process, during which 47 new elements with a total weight of 1415 kg were used, took several hours.
About 825 kg of pure silk, 180 kg of silver and gold were used to make a new coverlet.
The old bedspread, replaced by a new one, is washed with water from the source “Zamzam”, after which it goes to Islamic countries for exhibition in museums.
Ayata from the Holy Quran using silver and gold is embroidered on the Caaba cover.
produced on the world’s largest sewing machine
Caaba cover is made in the complex named after King Abdulaziz for the production of kisva located in Mecca.
About 200 masters and administration employees work on the territory of the complex.
The world’s largest computerized sewing machine is 16 meters long.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia traditionally changed the Caaba cover on the 9th day of the month of Zul-hija, on the day of Araf.
However, in 2022 this tradition was changed: now kisva is updated on the first day of the month of Muharram – at the beginning of the new year according to the Islamic lunar calendar.
