Can Shahriyar Mammadyarov beat Teimur Rajabov and get ahead of Magnus Carlsen?

Today, the Norway Chesis traditional chess tournament is ending in the Norwegian Stavanger, in which Azerbaijani grandmasters Shakhriyar Mammadyarov and Teimur Rajabov take part.

In the final 9th round, our chess players play with each other. Usually, parties between the strongest Azerbaijani grandmasters in international tournaments end in a draw. However, this time, the regulations of the competition necessarily identify the winner, and the tournament situation forces one of the rivals to play for victory.

At the moment, Shakhtyar Mammadyarov has 14.5 points, and he takes 2nd place, only half a point behind the leading Magnus Carlsen. Victory in the classical party gives 3 points. This means that if Shahriyar manages to defeat Teimur in the Classic, and Karlsen will not be able to win the main batch of Bulgarian Veselin Topalov, then it is Mammadyarov that will become the winner of the tournament.

It is also important to note that Rajabov with 6.5 points currently occupies the last place and he does not have any special tournament tasks.

Recall that according to the regulations of the competition, 10 chess players play one circle. If the classic party ends in a draw, then the rivals fight in Armageddon. The winner of the classical party, as mentioned above, receives 3 points, and the loser remains without points. For the victory in Armageddon, 1.5 points are entitled, the defeat is estimated at 1 point.

Time control in the classical party – 2 hours plus 10 seconds for each move made after the 40th move. In Armageddon, the whites have 10 minutes, in black – 7. After the 40th course, 1 second is added for each move. In the case of a draw, the victory is given to black.
