Caspian region has turned into an energy hub – head of Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan

as part of alternative energy projects (wind and solar energy), which will be implemented in Azerbaijan until the end of 2026, it is planned to save 1 billion cubic meters of gas. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shakhbazov, speaking at the 28th Baku Energy Forum.

According to him, until the end of 2026, projects in the field of alternative energy with a capacity of 1.8 GW will be implemented in Azerbaijan. By 2030, the specified indicator will reach 5 GW, which means that the potential of “green energy” will grow.

Shakhbazov noted that from a geostrategic point of view, the Caspian region has become an energy hub.

According to him, Azerbaijan strengthened its role in ensuring the energy security of Europe and the region as a whole. “As you know, we initiated the project of the southern gas corridor, which today plays an important role in the export of Azerbaijani gas to the EU. Today we export our gas to 6 countries and believe that the number of these countries will grow. I also believe that partnership and cooperation with Third countries are very important to achieve their goals, ”he said.

Azerbaijan, according to the minister, is working on an increase in natural gas sources. “Today, our country has about 1.7 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, which we plan to export to other countries in the future. In addition, we will save about 1 billion cubic meters of gas by 2028 by expanded use of renewables, which will be aimed at export “, – he said.

Shahbazov also said that the government is working with the EBRD on assessing the potential of hydrogen production in the country.

The minister noted that in the field of transportation in the future to foreign green energy markets at the first stage, it is expected to transport 4 GW of pure energy and 1 GW to Turkey to the EU.
