Catalan separatist chief released from jail

The former head of the Government of Catalonia and one of the leaders of the independence of the autonomous field of Spain Carles Puchden Demon, detained on September 22 on the Italian island of Sardinia, released from custody by the court of the city of Sassari. It is reported by BBC.

The same court ordered him to be in Sardinia on October 4 for the first hearing of its extradition, without imposing any restrictive measures for him.

Earlier, the lawyers of Puchdemon said that the court ordered him not to leave Sardinia, but this information was incorrect. The separatist leader can move freely over the next 10 days. His lawyers did not rule out that the fourth day he could appear before the video of the video call – today Puchdemon also attended the hearing remotely, being in the insulator.

Puchdemona Lawyers explain that the restriction on his movement would compromise Puchdemona status as a member of the European Parliament, so the court decided to grant him his freedom.

Karles Puchdemon was detained on Wednesday at the international arrest warrant issued by Spain in October 2019. The Spanish authorities accuse 58-year-old Puchdemon, a former journalist chosen by President of Catalonia in 2016, in incitement to rebellion for his role in organizing a referendum on the independence of Catalonia, which the Spanish court recognized illegal. Puchdemon fled from Spain and until recently lived in Belgium. In 2019, he was elected a deputy of the European Parliament and was immunity from prosecution. However, in March of this year, European deputies decided to remove inviolability from him and from his two associates.
