Chaos in Lebanon continues: protesters blocked and entrances to Beirut

In Lebanon, protesters have blocked northern exits and entrances on major highways in Beirut. In the morning, demonstrators began blocking the roads with burning tires and garbage cans.

This situation is observed not only in the Lebanese capital, but also on the highways leading to the cities of Byblos and Batrun in northern Lebanon, as well as on transport routes between Beirut and southern Lebanon, on the section of the highway between Saida and Tire, RIA Novosti reports from a link to the country’s media.

The demonstrations in Lebanon have been going on for six days. They began when the Lebanese pound on the black market plummeted to 10,000 pounds to the dollar – at an official rate of about 1,500 pounds. Acting Prime Minister Hassan Diyab made a televised address to the nation in which he said Lebanon was on the verge of collapse and urged political forces to rush to form a new cabinet. Diyaba was supposed to replace Saad al-Hariri as prime minister, but he has been unable to form a government for several months.
