Most Apple products that will be sold in the United States in the coming months will come from India and Vietnam. This was stated by the general director of the American technological company Apple Tim Cook.
According to The Wall Street Journal, during the telephone conference consisting of the company’s quarterly report, Cook commented on the influence of customs duties and shared his expectations.
According to him, most of the iPhone that will be sold in the United States will come from India, and devices such as Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and Airpods will be “almost completely” from Vietnam.
Cook noted that after the introduction of customs duties on Chinese goods, Apple decided to diversify her supply chain.
“We realized some time ago that concentration in just one place is too much risk,” added the general director of the technological company.
In addition, Cook emphasized that according to the company, duties will increase the costs of $ 900 million in the current quarter.
“Mutual duties” and the reaction of China
Chinese exporters supply in the USA mainly electronics, equipment and components, ferrous and non -ferrous metals, textiles, plastic, clothes, toys and furniture.
US President Donald Trump on April 2 announced the introduction of additional customs duties as part of the policy of “mutual tariffs” in relation to a number of trading partners, including China.
After the response from China, a tariff confrontation broke out between the two countries.
The United States increased duties for Chinese goods to 145%, and China introduced duties of 125% on American products.
The Washington administration postponed the introduction of additional tariffs for the European Union and other countries for 90 days, but the duties against China entered into force immediately.
April 25 Trump in an interview with Time magazine stated that he discussed the issue of duties with the chairman of China Xi Jinping and promised to reveal the details at the right time.
Beijing, in turn, denied the statements of ongoing negotiations and accused Washington of misleading the public.
