China intends to reach carbon neutrality until 2060

China intends to achieve carbon emissions peak until 2030 and carbon neutrality until 2060. This was stated by President of China Si Jinping during a speech on the global climatic summit organized by the United States.

“We must be committed to environmental development. Environmental improvement means an increase in productivity,” he noted. According to him, developed countries responsible for higher carbon emissions should be more responsible for making changes and assistance to developing countries in financing their transition to a low carbon economy. “We must adhere to the principle of general but differentiated responsibility.”

Jinpin stressed that China seeks to move from the peak level of carbon emissions to clean zero in a short period of time – in just 30 years.

China’s regulator in the field of energy stated earlier on Thursday, which will strive to reduce the share of coal in general energy balance to less than 56% this year.
