China Urged Not To Intervene In Cooperation With Russia

Cooperation with Russia is not directed against the third parties and should not become the object of external intervention, China authorities said.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC Mao Nin, speaking at a daily press conference in Beijing, commented on topical international issues.

“Partnership between China and Russia is not directed against third countries,” Mao emphasized, responding to the statement of the chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Layen about the need to limit the Chinese -Russian cooperation.

She also stated that Beijing considers any external intervention in the relationship between China and Russia unacceptable.

Mao called on the European Union to develop mutually beneficial cooperation with China and approach existing disagreements constructively.

“Before talking about economic and trade relations with China, the EU must adjust its own mentality,” she said.

The Chinese side also responded to US plans to ban the sale of agricultural land to buyers from China and other “competing” countries.

“We urge the United States to immediately terminate the policy of trade and investment issues,” Mao said.

von der Lyain: the EU is ready to open a “new page” in relations with China

On the eve of the European Commission, Ursula von der Lyain, speaking in the European parliament, said that despite the “strategic and systemic risks” coming from China, the European Union is ready to build more balanced and stable relations with Beijing.

von der Layin emphasized that the European Union cannot take part of Beijing in support of the “military economy of Russia” and voiced three requirements for China, including restriction of cooperation with Moscow.

She also stated that the role of China in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will become a “decisive factor” for future relations between the EU and the PRC.
