China: will be fined for half empty plates in cafe

The Permanent Committee of the All-China Assembly of People’s Representatives (Parliament) approved the law on combating wasteful use of food, the Agency “Xinhua” reports. The law came into force on April 29.

According to the law, catering service providers may charge customers who leave an excessive amount of food waste, a disposal fee, but the corresponding tariff must be clearly marked with the institution and is known to visitors. Restaurants are also obliged to remind customers about the duties tend to relate to products

According to the official statistics of the PRC authorities, annually in the city industry of China China is about 18 billion tons of food consumables. It is reported that annually China loses about 35 billion kilograms of grain at stages of storage, transportation and processing.
