Colombian President Accuses US President Donald Trump Of Trying To Influence Elections

Colombian President Gustavo Petro accused US President Donald Trump of trying to influence the presidential elections that will take place in his country next year.

In a post on the social network of the American company X, Petro mentioned Trump’s recent remarks about him.

President Petro said: “The scale of Trump’s insults towards Colombia and my personal focus now is not on creating an effective anti-drug strategy, but on influencing the elections that will take place in Colombia next year. Its goal is to ensure the return to power of far-right forces that have strong and proven ties to drug trafficking, but are subject to external interference.”

Criticizing the United States for attacks on ships in the Caribbean under the pretext of combating drug proliferation drugs, the president noted: “They believe that by weakening the democratic movement in Colombia, they will be able to more easily gain access to Venezuelan oil.”

In Colombia, parliamentary elections will be held on March 8, 2026, and on May 31, the first round of presidential elections

Trump’s accusations against me are completely groundless

During one from working meetings, Petro said he condemned the US attack on a ship that the US said was transporting drugs in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Colombia.

Petro said the US had violated international law by carrying out attacks in the Caribbean and the Pacific.

“Our people know that during my time in office I was the most successful ruler in the history of the world in seizing cocaine. We fought to keep traffickers out of the ports and seized large quantities of both processed cocaine and cocaine leaves awaiting processing. US President Donald Trump’s accusation against me is unfounded,” the Colombian President emphasized.
