Cooperation with UN – priority direction of Astana’s foreign policy – Foreign Ministry

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Umarov, met with the assistant general of the UN Secretary General for Political Affairs – acting head of the UN regional center for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia (RCPP) Miroslava Enthi, the press service of the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry. Umarov noted that cooperation with the UN is a priority area of ​​Kazakhstan’s foreign policy and thanked the organization’s leadership for the support of Kazakhstan international initiatives. The parties discussed the situation in Central Asia and Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism and extremism, water cooperation, as well as the development and strengthening of preventive diplomacy tools to preserve peace and security in the region.

In turn, the YNCHI positively assessed the many years of partnership and trust, which has developed over the years between Kazakhstan and the UN, expressed gratitude for the active position of Astana in issues of regional cooperation. In the context of the recently completed electoral cycle, Ench spoke highly about the complex reforms initiated by the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev.

The UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is a special political mission of the UN Department for Political Issues and Issues of Peace, created on the initiative of the governments of the five states of Central Asia in 2007, with the headquarters in the city of Ashgabat (Turkmenistan).

The main task of the Center is to assist the Central Asian states in identifying and eliminating existing and potential threats to the world and security in the region. In addition, the center helps to promote partnerships between Central Asia states in cooperation with regional and international organizations.
