Coronavirus: New “Lambda” -variant “Delta”?

Andean variant of coronavirus, or simply “Lambda” -variant (p.37). For the first time, infection was recorded in Peru in August 2020, however, a little is still known about this mutation.

Deutsche Veter in his article talks about the study of scientists from Japan, who managed to find three new dangerous mutations, which contains a spike protein of the “Lambda” version.

One of them provides this variant of coronavirus greater compared to other resistance to antibodies and, as a result, less efficient neutralization. In other words, the lambda option is able to better leave the immune response, so even vaccinated and recovered people are protected from it to a much lesser extent. Two other mutations increase the contagiousness of the lambda option, which makes it much contagious of other strains.

The article notes that the lambda option from Yuzhgly America reached Europe, today it is found in about 30 countries. So far, the World Health Organization class classifies a lambda option as “representing interest” or “Observation Observation”. This group includes coronavirus mutations, which lead to an increase in the cases of the disease, are found in several countries and followed by intently.

However, according to the Japanese research team, the lambda option meets all the criteria to make it in the list of “concern.” The authors call on WHO change the classification of the lambda option, argumenting by the fact that it meets all the requirements for this: has increased contagiosity and resistant to antibodies – as well as detected in India delta-option, which WHO classifies as “causing anxiety.”

One of the authors of the study, Kay Sato from Tokyo University, warns that the potential danger emanating from C.37 should be treated seriously. Lambda option can represent a “potential threat to human society”, quotes the scientist Reuters.

Another scientist, Pablo Tsukama, is convinced that lambda will not be the last option of coronavirus, striking the whole world. “It is likely that in the coming months in Latin America new options will appear. They will not necessarily be more dangerous, but, definitely, more infectious,” the scientist is pressed.

At the same time, scientists, including Tsukukim, fear that in the coming months, it will be necessary for the WHO not one letter of the Greek alphabet to designate new SARS-COV-2 versions.
