The countries of Central Asia have agreed on the flow of water into the Shardara reservoir. The press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan reported this on Friday, November 14.
The 91st meeting of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (ICWC) was held in the city of Ashgabat.
It was attended by the Chairman of the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan Durdy Gendzhiev, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Khamraev, First Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Jamshed Shodi Shoimzoda. Counselor of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkmenistan Emil Shadykhanov acted as an observer.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the results of the growing season of 2025. The forecast schedule for the operation of the Naryn-Syr Darya cascade of reservoirs for the non-vegetation period 2025-2026 was also approved. In accordance with this schedule, the predicted inflow into the Shardara reservoir was agreed upon.
In addition, the parties reported on the progress of work on the implementation of the tasks set at the summits of the Heads of State – the founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. The next, 92nd meeting of the ICWC will be held next year in Tajikistan.
“The past irrigation period took place in difficult climatic conditions, but the interaction of all states included in the ICWC made it possible to ensure a stable passage of the growing season. The basis for further joint work is laid at such meetings. We and our partners from the countries of Central Asia are aimed at the fair distribution of transboundary water resources, taking into account the interests of all parties,” the Minister noted water resources and irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
