Cuba: US Actions Against Venezuela Could Lead To “unpredictable Consequences”

Cuba accused the administration of US President Donald Trump of trying to “overthrow” the government of Venezuela by force and warned that such steps could lead to “unpredictable consequences.”

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla commented on Washington’s actions in a video message published on the social network account of the American company X.

“The aggressive US military presence in the region poses a threat to the entire Latin America and the Caribbean,” said the head of the department. According to the minister, under the influence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Washington aims to “overthrow the government by force in Venezuela through the use of military force.”

Parrilla called these attempts “extremely dangerous and irresponsible,” emphasizing that they could cause “unpredictable consequences.”

He added that a further escalation of military tension in the region would constitute an international crime and a direct violation of international law and the UN Charter. The head of the Cuban Foreign Ministry called on the United States to abandon such actions.

Earlier, Washington added the criminal group Cartel de los Soles, which the United States associates with President Nicolas Maduro and senior Venezuelan officials, to the list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Caracas regarded this step as an attempt to create a pretext for interference in the internal affairs of the country.

It was also reported that the world’s largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and the strike force accompanying him arrived in the Latin American region under the pretext of “fighting drug trafficking.”

In response, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the mobilization of 4.5 million militia troops, declaring their readiness to “repel any attack.”
