According to her information, in the list of deprivation of citizenship of the island state, which was approved at the last meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the names of the 21st owners of the so-called gold passports, including four of the Russians mentioned, appearing in the EU sanctions lists, as well as their members Families.

As stated in the material, the decision to cancel the passports of Russians was adopted by the Cabinet on the basis of Article 113 of the Law on the Storage of Data Population of the Island, taking into account the amendments made in 2020 and including provisions concerning the deprivation of the status of a Cyprus citizen and the process through which this procedure Performed.

On April 7, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis reported that on this day the Cabinet of Ministers authorized the chapter of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Nikos Nurisa “to proceed with the process of cancellation of citizenship of four of 850 people who are in the EU sanctions lists.” The names of the said Four Anastasiadis did not call, adding only that the rest of the persons appearing in these lists did not receive Cypriot passports.

The scheme of providing citizenship in exchange for investments operated on the island for more than 10 years. During this time, the owners of “gold passports” of Cyprus were about 7 thousand people. The Commission appointed by the Government found that this scheme functioned without the necessary mechanism for supervision and without a system of checks and counterweights, which led to the fact that in more than 52% of cases, the owners of Cypriot citizenship were persons who did not have sufficient grounds for this.
